How Does God Seek Face?

As Chinese people (even those born in the USA), we carry with us some of the cultural features of our ancestry. One social concept is “face.”

Theologian Jackson Wu prepared this video to explore this idea and connects it to a discussion about the Gospel message of Christianity.

What do you think?

Getting our minds around the Old Testament

Understandably, much of the teaching in church is based on the New Testament Scriptures. However, when you think about Jesus and the early followers, they were steeped in the Old Testament. We shouldn’t miss out on the wisdom and inspiration of this part of the Bible.

Here is a resource, “Introduction – Old Testament from 35,000 Feet” we have come across that we think is helpful. In the talk, we hear about the bridges that need to be built to the Biblical world from the modern world. In particular, four areas where there is distance: history, geography, culture, and language.

In need of training or a speaker?

steps

You’ve been asked to lead a small group Bible study!

Or you’ve volunteered to organize the next set of Bible studies for the youth group.

We have built this web page to highlight video resources we have produced and to link to other places on the Internet where we have found helpful material.

We are also here to serve and partner with you. Check out our Training and Speakers page to explore how we might be of help beyond web based video resources.

Click this link to see a talk on Group Dynamics (the screen grab at the top is part of the presentation) in a small group Bible study. This would be an example of the kind of training we could offer to your group.

The Center for Chinese Church Studies has produced some video resources with emphasis on how to prepare and lead a small group Bible study using the inductive approach. Simply put, “inductive” means to draw from specific examples in the Scriptures to arrive at general principles about what God wants us to know and to do in relationship to him and the people in our lives.

Check out the link to see the materials. Feel free to look them over, learn from them, and share them with others in your group who are or are potential small group Bible study leaders. Click here for an example.

Let us know if there are some topics you would like to see addressed and we will see if we can come up with a resource that might be helpful.

Ezra 7:10, “For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.”

In 2016, may you set your heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach it to those you serve!
